Day one of our trip to Hilton Head Island, SC.
When we arrived at the Savannah/Hilton Head airport we rented a car. Our original plans of having her friend pick us up kind of fell through. No biggie! We rented a real nice shiny blue Ford Focus. It was really a POS, but it got us around and gave us the giggles a few times.
When granny and I travel together, and we see a fruit stand we usually stop. Why would this time be any different? 🙂
We picked up some cantaloupe, peaches, and tomatoes. YUM! We really enjoyed them all week, except for the peaches. Granny and Lisa said the peaches gave them really bad stomach cramps. I never even tried the peaches so I was cramp free. Yippee!
Since we had a car of our own, and our host wasn't feeling well, we decided to go to Savannah and do a little shopping. The first thing on granny's agenda was to get a birthday card for one of her friends. So we did.
Next, we hit the second most popular place on Congress Street.
The Paula Deen Store.
I could spend hours in this store. Hours! The candles were amazing, and I wasn't expecting candles so imagine my surprise.
Speaking of surprises, while we were shopping in the Paula Deen Store I heard the hostess announce "Chris, party of two." When no one answered, she told the other lady she was working with that the party must have left. I told granny that we should try to get in because that party of two didn't show up. All of a sudden granny had a grand idea, all on her own, hee hee, she decided to go and just try to get us in because really, what could it hurt. We trotted on over to the Host, and she said, "Sure! We can seat you at a high table on the third floor." We acted very calm, said thank you and took our pass to get upstairs.
The whole time we are saying to ourselves that we can't believe we just got in.
We took the elevator to the third floor, and the very nice lady took our pass from us. Then, she insisted that we take a table instead of a high top. I am sure it had to do with me being with a Senior Citizen. If it had just been me and a friend, we would have gotten the high top. This nice lady was looking out for granny.
All of the menus are autographed. I wanted to take one, but it wouldn't fit in my purse. JUST KIDDING!! I just didn't feel like asking. But I really, really wanted one. Instead, I got an autographed The Lady & Sons cookbook. I got one for one of you as well. I will give it away Wednesday. 🙂
We were complete goofball tourists. We had to take each others picture sitting at the restaurant.
Can you tell I had been up since 2 a.m.? That was a really long day, but we had some fun.
Here is granny calling one of her friends to rub it in that we got right in to the restaurant. I think her friend told her that we would never get it. :)
Then our food came.
Granny ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes, something she'd never eaten before. She said they were pretty good. I tried one of them, and I thought they were delicious.
I ordered the Pulled Pork. Oh. My. Goodness.
See those fried things next to the pulled pork sandwich? Those are fried potato slices. They were delish!!!
Just look at this sandwich.
I am gonna have to get this recipe out and make some of this for McD. He will love it. I'm not quite sure it is on our diet, but we might have to make an exception.
This place was packed! Oh look! That dude has eyes in the back of his head, and I thought my mom was just making that up.
There's the buffet. For $13.99 you can enjoy all kinds of Paula's goodies. It was so hard to decide what to get, everything sounded so good.
As we were leaving, we walked past the Host again and heard her tell these lovely young ladies that she was very sorry, but they wouldn't be able to dine with them today. Darn their luck. We were the lucky ones.
Tomorrow, the rest of the trip.
Wednesday, a little giveaway. I will give you a tip now. Be browsing this blog, because the key to winning lies in here somewhere. (I will be asking what your favorite post is. Shoot, I was going to wait until Wednesday to tell you. :) Oops, it just slipped.)
