Feel free to scroll to the bottom if you have already read all this mumbo jumbo. 🙂

For the past couple of years I’ve jumped on the one word for the new year wagon. I’ve had Focus and Encourage in the past. This year I really struggled to find a word. When I had just about settled on Love, I received a Faithbox in the mail and inside there was a small bag that said…What’s Your Purpose?

Purpose

Purpose or Love? Have I ever told you how much I hate decision making?

Instead of me making the decision for myself, like a big girl would, I prayed about it. I plainly asked God what my word should be for the new year. I explained to the all-knowing Father that I had narrowed it down to two words, love and purpose. Then, all I had to do was wait patiently.

I didn’t have to wait long, because on Day 2 of the January Everyday Faith devotional (comes in your faithbox) it quotes Ravi Zacharias:

When you find your definitions in God, you find the very purpose for which you were created. Put your hand into God’s hand, know His absolutes, demonstrate His love, present His truth, and the message of redemption and transformation will take hold.

Then, on January 3rd this is what was on my God in Every Moment, DayBrightener Perpetual Flip Calendar.

Everything that happens to you has meaning. Every moment of life has purpose. And God doesn’t step away from you for a single second of the journey.

Did you catch that?

When you find your definitions in God, you find the very purpose for which you were created.

Every moment of life has purpose.

Two days after I prayed about my word for the year, a word in which I would pray about and apply to my life all year, started appearing in everywhere. Not only was it in my calendar and my devotional, it was in scriptures we would read in church AND in ladies bible class. The word PURPOSE was everywhere! I felt like my prayer had been answered.

Purpose it is!

It is a great word, isn’t it? Now, to figure it all out. :/

If I think of a word that I SHOULD adopt for 2016 I would strongly lean toward Simplicity. Too many irons in the fire and too much “stuff” is making my life too stressful. SO, dear Julie, thanks to this article I am truly trying to simplify my world. Thank you for introducing this thought process to me!

Simplicity? What is that? HA! That is a great word! I need to write all these great ideas down so I will have something to go back to for next year! <3

I have never done a “one word” but I love it! Thank you for sharing!

If you choose a word I hope you’ll share it! 🙂

I LOVE the movie the War Room- watched it twice! I intend to see it again, and again, and – well you get the idea! Trying to figure out s prayer wall for our house. Thanks for your encouraging words.

    • Reply Julie January 18, 2016 at 3:59 pm

I’m working on a prayer room in our house too! I would love to do the bible study with a group! Think we can get some interest in it?

Ahhh I love your word! I too was struggling with my one word. I couldn’t make a decision, then bam, I was sitting in church and they were talking about Grace, giving Grave and receiving Grace and it was like God took that moment and spoke to me and said, Here is your word….. GRACE……You need to give Grace this year and you need to receive Grace this year. It was perfect and like you it seems like now this word keeps popping up all over the place. God is so good.

      Congratulations!!
I hope you’ll let us know how you like the movie!! Grace is such a good word! I may just copy off of you next time. 🙂

Oh Julie! What an inspiration you are for me! As I think back to the struggles you have had through the years, I am strengthened by your faith and your ability to put everything into our God’s hands! I have decided to pick a word for myself this year also. My word is wisdom. I am already feeling empowered by knowing that God is giving me that wisdom that I am needing daily. Thank you so much for your example and for your love. May God continue to bless you in His work!!

    • Reply Julie January 18, 2016 at 4:03 pm

      Melody,
I don’t even know where to start! Me being an inspiration to you? That just seems unreal to me. I really have no words. Oh you know I could come up with some smarty-pants remark, but I am truly touched by this. I love you!

I am doing a word for the first time this year! My word is LIVE – as in James 1:22 – to be a doer, not only a hearer of the Word. I love God’s Word – He has given me such a hunger and a thirst for His Word. This year my challenge is to LIVE His Word – at home with my family and at school with my students.

    • Reply Julie January 18, 2016 at 4:06 pm

What a great one! LIVE! Everyone is picking such great words! Words that we take for granted so much of the time. I’m writing this one down too!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!

I did chose a word for 2016 for the first time ever. My word for 2016 is REJOICE!! After all my struggles over the past few years, it is time to rejoice. My test is turning into a testimony and harvest season has come. I am thankful that my faith passed the test and am excited to see all the things I get to rejoice over in 2016.

The past couple of years I read TD Jakes books Instinct and Destiny. I have also read Undaunted and Unstoppable by Christine Caine. All of these books are geared toward helping you find your God-given purpose. We all have a purpose. I highly recommend all four books and that everyone pray for God to show and guide you into your purpose.

    Good post Julie!

      My Lisa Kay!
You do have a lot to rejoice about! I rejoice with you! Thank you for all the book suggestions! I am sure I will devour them! 🙂 Love you!

Haven’t seen War Room yet which just goes to show somehow my priorities are not what I wish they were (again). Seems to be a wagon I fall off of quite often. Thanks for the wonderful blog. You are such an encouragement to me. Love you

    • Reply Julie January 18, 2016 at 4:13 pm

Oh Cissy! You must see this movie! You will love it! I have a copy you can borrow, and so does Brigitte! We miss you in class! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by my little dot on the web; it means so much to me! Love you!!
