This sweet little girl, Pepper, isn't so sweet anymore.

If you will recall, I asked for some advice regarding our girls that were fighting all the time.

I really do appreciate all your advice and words of encouragement.

A couple of people mentioned talking to the Dog Whisperer, Cesar, so I went to his website and did a little research. I learned that we needed to be the dominate ones instead of letting one of the dogs dominate things. I am pretty sure a couple of you mentioned that as well. So, we started dominating more, and that has helped tremendously.

We have only had one more fight since we have changed the way we are handling things. It was the strangest thing. Little Miss Pepper, sweet as she could be girl, was the one that started the fight. Abby did not want to fight, and tried to get away. I was able to grab Pepper and keep them from fighting.

Earlier this week, McD and I went to San Diego for a few days, and took Pepper to the vet to be spayed while we were away. We are hoping that she is still young enough that spaying her might help.

We will see.

I wanted to let everyone know that we are keeping both dogs. We are working with them, and hope to see more and more improvement as time goes on.

Thanks again for all your feedback!!

Hi there! I’m glad you’re trying to work things out. One caution…..Cesar Milan is NOT necessarily the best person to use for dog training advice. He’s definitely the most popular and well-known but he uses methods that are based on intimidation and fear. I’ve seen him turn a dachshund into a quivering (yet obedient)dog. There are many good trainers with positive methods who get results that YOU can also feel good about. I DO think you need to be the ‘leaders’ of your group. But you can do that using positive methods and not the fear-based, intimidating factors that Milan recommends. Dog trainers should not get bitten….check out this video of Milan on Youtube.

That dog is biting as a last resort because Milan is ignoring all the signals and trying to intimidate the dog (direct eye-contact, straight-on, direct stance to the dog….very threatening in the dog-world).
Check out Patricia McConnell ( She has lots of resources listed that will offer you some help and understanding of the potential reasons Abby and Pepper are having some conflict.
Good luck!! I wish you the best!

Hi Julie, I have been wondering how the girls were getting along. I will continue to pray things will work out, and I’m glad to hear that Pepper and Abby have only had 1 fight since that last big one. Hopefully the spaying will help. God Bless!
